Gratitude

DAILY VERSE
Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:26

DAILY QUOTE
Blessings hemmed with praise will not unravel.

DAILY THOUGHT

Mother Teresa told the story of finding four starving people on a Calcutta street. She told the other nuns with her to take care of three of them while she attended to the one who looked to be in the worst condition. They got them back to their clinic and Mother Teresa put her in bed and attended to her needs. The woman took hold of Mother Teresa’s hand, smiled, and said only two words, “Thank you,” before passing into eternity. Mother Teresa was deeply moved and blessed.
In the most tender and delicate moments of our lives, gratitude is often the most precious gift we can give. It affirms; it heals; it forgives. It’s important to remember, though, that we can give that gift anytime. There might be some people in our lives who desperately need it sooner rather than later.
Lord, I pray that You would help me show kindness and thankfulness to someone close to me today. Amen.

Saturday stroll

Don, waiting for me to join him for a walk this morning.  He's very patient with me, while I put on my shoes, grab my camera and my cell phone.Don, waiting on me to go for a walk

It was a beautiful morning and there were many folks out enjoying the day.100_3973

When we walked through the Club House, Millie Boone and helper were getting The Sunscaper ready for delivery.  Millie has been the editor of the newsletter for at least ten years and does a great job.Millie Boone (right) getting The Sunscaper ready for delivery

There's a tree up for the kids at Home of Hope in Casa Grande.gift tree for Home of Hope children

Naomi and Bob have a trichocereus that has been blooming for three days.  That is very unusual as they normally bloom for one day and then the bloom closes and falls off.  We enjoyed visiting this couple who have been married for sixty years.  Bob has a collection of model cars and Naomi has a collection of angels.Naomi's trichocerus is blooming in in Nov. for the THIRD day!

Naomi also has a collection of odd cactus plants:

I call this a Lighted Flag Pole.  a lighted flag pole!

We never know what we will find while walking around.  I found gifts for our girls at Nancy's, down the street, who had a table set up at their site with these cute "popcorn" tops for sell.  She had spaghetti strap ones and...

Today has not be a good day for the University of Oklahoma sports teams.  Both football and men's basketball teams lost on the road.  At least the women's basketball team won today, but we didn't get to watch that game.

In between games, Dale and Carol, the new CRM chaplain, who arrived Thursday at Quail Run, dropped by for a visit.  What a lovely couple from Washington.  We look forward to spending more time with them.

We've had another run of folks in and out of the hospital around here this week.  Thankfully, most are back home.  However, our good friend, Jo Becker, is scheduled for hernia surgery on Monday.  Prayers for Jo will be very much appreciated.

Notice there is now a link in the sidebar menu for Don's Audio Sermons, for your convenience.

Besides the delicious vegetable soup that Don made for dinner tonight, that's about all for this Saturday.  We are looking forward to another wonderful morning of worship in the morning.  Please join us!

~~Isaiah 43:2 says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you."  The Lord watches over us, even when we don't fully understand the perilous nature of our condition.  Thank goodness for His daily protection!

Where has the time gone?

My goodness!  It's Friday already.

We've had a very good week of visiting with friends and new friends here at Sunscape, praying with people, talking to ministry peers, rejoicing, weeping, rejoicing.

Congratulations to Barbara and Darrell Howard on the birth of their new and healthy grandson, Tyler.  He is beautiful and we are rejoicing with you.  Fun times ahead!!

Don wrote Sunday's Coming and we got it posted and have had a few responses from it, which we always welcome and look forward to.

Wednesday, Don went to the Men's Bible Study in the morning, while I wrestled with Blogger to get Sunday's Coming posted.  For the longest, I got no response from Blogger.

Wednesday afternoon, the Sunscape Fire Department took the truck out for a test run, just to make sure everything is still working.Sunscape Fire DepartmentThursday, we found ourselves over at Quail Run visiting with Rick and Wendy.  As we were walking around, we spotted the hot air balloon that goes up almost every afternoon from the Eloy Airport.100_3965Chuck and Janet have arrived at Q.R. and we had fun visiting with them.  In this picture we were laughing about a call Rick just got on his cell phone.  It was a young kid (wrong number) who asked for his Granny.  Chuck said,  "You should have said, 'No, this his your Grandpa Rick.  What are you doing on the phone?!!'"  From there, the suggested responses just got worse.  You can only imagine.100_3966Today, Friday morning choir practice.  Our numbers are growing and we love it!choir practice100_3968director, Linnea Bolm

Ladies Bible Study starts

I'm so excited.  I talked to my granddaughter, Lydia, on Skype last night! It was almost like having her in the room with us.  Audio was so clear and picture was perfect.  I'm already planning to talk to Mama via Skype when she moves to Georgia - my brother has a computer.

We started our Ladies Bible Study here at Sunscape this morning and look what a beautiful group of ladies showed up.  We are finishing the study of the names of God that we started last season.  I'm looking forward to gleaning so much from these girls.first day, Ladies Bible Study

When I got back to the Q, Don had his famous (to me) chicken noodle soup ready for lunch.

This afternoon we visited three different couples in the park.  We enjoy riding around in the golf cart and just stopping to visit people.

Don woke up with a sweet friend on his mind this morning and the thought stayed with him all day.  We prayed for her and still the thought was with him, so this afternoon, I called Joyce.  Guess what?  It's her birthday!! Now is that cool, or what?  We didn't know it was her birthday and God put her on Don's heart so we would call her and wish her a happy birthday.  We are so thankful that it was a happy reason that Don was thinking of her.

Later this afternoon, Thelma and I rode our bikes.  That's always good therapy for both of us.

I also had a nap this afternoon.  It was a very good day. :-)

Counting our blessings.

Monday is not blue

Connie came by this morning to visit for awhile.  What a delightful personality and huge-hearted lady.  She and hubby Bob have been involved in many services, especially to our military returning home and their families.  There's are stories behind this bike, but I can not do them justice, so I won't even try. ConnieIt is a beautiful day today and our bougainvillea is in full bloom since the rain last Saturday.100_3949

While sitting at our dining table, working on the Bible study for in morning, I noticed the wonderful view outside the open door.

This afternoon, Mike Moore came by with a trichocereus for us.  Thanks, Mike!100_3958Hopefully, we will see this in the spring, large white flowers.

Thanks Mike!!!

We are so blessed.

Digger and Bear

I wish I could video all of our Sunday morning and post it, but I can't.  But Don's sermons are posted in audio at: http://www.crmintl.org/.  Then click "CRM Audio Sermons" in the sidebar menu on the left.  There are two of his sermons there so far along with sermons of other CRM chaplains.  Today, Don begin the "I AM" series with "I am the Living Water."  If listening, everyone heard the Good News about Jesus Christ this morning.

Rick Fury joined us in the choir this morning, but we didn't get a chance to visit with him and Wendy after church, so Don called and invited them to meet us at Duffer's in Arizona City for lunch.  We enjoyed the brunch buffet and then went over to Quail Run to visit some more and walk Digger, the little doggie they were taking care of for the day.  He's a cutie.Digger (Rick and Wendy are doggie sitting)

We met bear while we were walking with Digger.  They were very nice to each other.BearAfter putting Digger back inside his home, we walked back to the Fury's and passed by Lyle and Kathy's.  They bought a park model last season and a new Harley this season.  Really pretty.Lyle Weyer and new 2009 Harley

We spent the rest of the afternoon playing cards with Rick and Wendy and we (the girls) almost let them beat us, but no, couldn't do that.  We had a really good time, we always do with the Furys, but we missed the U.S.A.F. jazz band concert in the park in Casa Grande.  We heard a report that is was an hour and a half of the best performance.  Wish we had all driven into C.G. for this concert.

Dear Lord, teach me to quiet my soul so that I can hear Your still, small voice. Thank You for the peace of Your presence. Amen.

The Wicker Basket

The story is told of an old man who lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning, Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading from his old worn-out Bible. His grandson who wanted to be just like him tried to imitate him in any way he could.

One day the grandson asked, 'Papa, I try to read the Bible just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bible do?' The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and said, 'Take this old wicker coal basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water.'

The boy did as he was told, even though all the water leaked out before he could get back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, 'You will have to move a little faster next time,' and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the old wicker basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was 'impossible to carry water in a basket,' and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, 'I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You can do this. You're just not trying hard enough,' and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got far at all. The boy scooped the water and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, 'See Papa, it's useless!'

'So you think it is useless?' The old man said, 'Look at the basket.'

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time he realized that the basket looked different. Instead of a dirty old wicker coal basket, it was clean.

'Son, that's what happens when you read the Bible. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, it will change you from the inside out.'

Moral of the wicker basket story: Take time to read a portion of God's word each day; it will affect you for good even if you don't retain a word.

Thought for Today: Gods Love is like the ocean, you can see its beginnings but not its end.

I really like this story because I don't retain things too well anymore...old age may have something to do with it but I just figure my brain just gets overloaded! God isn't concerned about my brain anyway, He's more concerned about my heart.

(Thanks to Peggy for sending the above to me.  I love it.)
